Ghettofuturism

Autumn 2022

oil, spray, enamel

wood panel, digital graphics

The Ghettofuturism series was inspired by the visual representation of the urban environment. I spent the first 19 years of my life almost entirely in a housing estate in Székesfehérvár, then I lived in Kőbánya and then in the party district of Budapest. What these places have in common is the wild, dangerous, and impersonal concrete jungle, and the absence of nature. The modern city can be analogized with decay, decay, darkness, and shadows where the light barely flickers. The technical challenge of the project was to reflect the aggressiveness of the urban atmosphere in both the materials used and the expression, so I worked with enamel paint and glue on the paintings. These materials, with their rough texture, helped to make the harshness of the urban environment palpable. To create tension, I dipped the pure colors in a kind of monochrome mud. As a result, the images are generally dominated by shades of grey and rusty, metallic tones, which further reinforce the harsh and monotonous mood.
