discarded objects, personal material memories
wooden box
I've been an avid dumpster diver since I was a teenager. There are lots of little treasures to be found when you're scavenging or materials that can be recycled. On my way home from the Buda Drawing School, I noticed that there was a rubbish collection in the district that day. I stopped at several piles before I found the box that serves as the frame for the artwork in the pictures. The outside of this box was covered with a plush, ochre-yellow material. I immediately took it home. My original idea was to incorporate pieces of mirror into the box and then create an object with additional paint to create an atmospheric spatial effect. I didn't have any mirrors at home that I could dedicate to this purpose, so I went around the piles on the street again looking for mirrors. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any, and I couldn't find a mirror by asking the professional scavengers who were standing around the heaps. I repeated this round several times, and in the end, they chased me away from the rubbish heaps so that I would not terrorize them with my unquenchable desire to find what I was seeking. I found a half-broken mirror in the basement, which my landlord finally gave me. After I applied it to the box,I felt that the work was not yet finished. I was looking around the apartment for objects that would look aesthetically pleasing built into such an object. Among my belongings, I found a bag of old objects and mementos. There were a lot of unwarranted things in this bag that I never knew what to do with, yet the memories attached to them made me reluctant to throw them away. I started to wildly incorporate these into the box. I was in a completely self-absorbed and childlike state, laughing for hours as I worked. The tension and chaotic energies inside me flowed through a very specific filter into the object. The piece was almost finished, but I didn't know what to do with it. I wanted to find a purpose for it, to make it part of my everyday life. The solution was to turn it into an incense holder. I glued some old photos of myself into the box and used a knife to cut out my groin. This way I can say that I can light an incense 'with my groin' through this object.
